Generally

X2X Maritime AS (X2X) was founded in July 2008, after a pre-study in 2007 carried out by the founders of the company. The pre-study addressed the reported problems related to the lack of sharing of information in the upstream chains of the oil and gas industry. The findings of the pre-study confirmed the existence and significance of these problems, and led to the establishment of the company.

Even though the conceptual X2X-idea was conceived much earlier, the realization of the idea became much easier in 2008 due to the technological development in general, and the new Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform developed by the Swedish company ComActivity AB. The X2X-concept can be regarded mainly as a natural evolutional development of today’s existing ICT-systems.

The market has also changed during the last years; the operators and the owners (licenses) on the Norwegian Continental Shelf are more concerned about operational cost and Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) than before. The focus on Supply Chain Management (SCM) and the Integrated Organization (IO) -thinking are examples of this.

During 2010, X2X carried out a Feasibility Study for the Heidrun license (operated by Statoil) to explore and analyze the potential of using the X2X-concept in Heidrun’s upstream logistics chain. The study focused both on financial and HSE aspects. Numerous interviews were made covering the whole supply chain. As a part of this work, three typical user-scenarios were made to clarify /uncover how the concept would function and appear to the end-users. The main finding of the Feasibility Study was that Heidrun would, beyond a doubt, benefit from using such a system, both related to positive HSE effects and significant financial savings.
The most obvious benefits would be realized by:

  • Improved operational and tactical decision making
  • Improved measuring of performance (internal and external actors)
  • More efficient information sharing (one tool that covers the entire supply chain)

Since the founding of the company, X2X has had significant R&D-activity, which was boosted in 2010.

Until now and in the near future, X2X has been and will be project-organized. X2X has a small staff of employees, but has a powerful team of collaboration partners. A major part of these partners are also part-owners in X2X.

Management

The company is headed by Bjørnar Aas. He has a background from the Norwegian Army and holds a Master and PhD in logistics from Molde University College, Norway.

    Vigmostad has long experience from Veritas, Norsk Data, EdiCom (formerly Fearnley Data) and EssNet AB (CEO and President).
  • Terje Rognlien (Lawyer).
    Rognlien has wide experience from oil and gas companies and is presently leader of the energy unit in ECON Pöyr.
  • Roar Lervik (Head of the Commercial Unit at HiMolde).
  • Øyvind Gjørven (has a wide experience from working with standardization within ICT).
  • Arvid Strand (D. Eng and MBA).
  • Ragni Hatlebakk(Drilling Engineer working for AGR).
